Do You Feel Free?
This poem is inspired by the recent mass shootings at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde and the grocery store in Buffalo, New York. 40% of Uvalde’s city budget goes to the police. Also, Texas Senator Ted Cruz suggested that Robb Elementary School should’ve only had one door to prevent shootings.
Do You Feel Free?

Do you feel free when you go to the store
And wonder if a mass shooter will walk through the door
Do you feel free when you turn on the news
And see 19 children shot dead, only to hear from Ted Cruz
Do you feel free with only one door at the store,
With shoppers crammed together when we enter or exit?
They got rid of the second in attempt to prevent it
Do you feel free when you walk down the street
And see more cops every day patrolling their beat?
They say they hired more cops to stop all the shootings
Do you feel free? Do you feel free?
